Sensori Robotics Internship

During the summer of my freshman year of college, I had the opportunity to intern as a Software Engineering Intern at Sensori Robotics, a startup in Texas developing autonomous robotic lawnmowers.
Assembly
I assisted in assembling some of the lawnmowers. Also, I soldered and testing a few of the control boards.
Software
I was tasked with creating object detection and image segmentation models. I first ran scripts to gather training data. Then, I leveraged YOLOv8 and the Segment Anything Model. Using these tools, I was able to create a model generation pipeline that automated the image labeling process, significantly reducing the time and resources needed to train models. I also developed a novel generic obstacle detection model, using YOLOv8.
Results
At the culmination of my internship, we were able to deploy the model on the robot and see it working live! I’m really grateful for this amazing opportunity. It was a great learning experience utilizing AI and ML in robotics, strengthening my skills in the area. I was also able to get a closer look at the inner workings of tech startups, offering insights into a potential avenue I may pursue.
